JEVE is fully committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics in line with the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines. This statement applies to all stakeholders—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—to ensure scientific integrity, transparency, fairness, and accountability throughout the publication process.

Authors’ Responsibilities

  • Originality: Manuscripts must be original, free from plagiarism, and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Redundant Publication: Duplicate or segmented (salami) submissions are prohibited.
  • Citations & Copyright: All sources must be cited accurately; written permission is required for copyrighted material.
  • Data Integrity: No fabrication, falsification, or manipulation of data; authors must provide raw data if requested.
  • Ethical Approval: Research involving humans/animals must have ethics approval and informed consent where applicable.
  • Conflicts of Interest & Funding: All conflicts and funding sources must be disclosed.
  • Authorship: Only those with significant contributions are listed; all authors must approve the final manuscript.
  • Use of AI Tools: Generative AI usage must be transparently declared (in Methods/Acknowledgments); AI cannot be credited as an author.
  • Data Availability: Authors are encouraged to include data availability statements and deposit data in trusted repositories.

Editors’ Responsibilities

  • Fair Decisions: Manuscripts are evaluated solely on academic merit, without discrimination.
  • Peer Review: JEVE applies a double-blind peer review; editors assign competent reviewers and manage conflicts of interest.
  • Confidentiality: Manuscript details are confidential and not disclosed outside the editorial process.
  • Ethics Handling: Misconduct is addressed following COPE flowcharts (clarification, correction, expression of concern, or retraction).
  • Similarity Check: Editors may perform plagiarism checks on all submissions.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

  • Objectivity: Reviews must be constructive, evidence-based, and aimed at improving the manuscript.
  • Confidentiality: Manuscripts are confidential and must not be shared or used for personal purposes.
  • Competence: Reviewers accept assignments only within their expertise and must declare conflicts of interest.
  • Timeliness: Reviews should be completed promptly; reviewers must notify editors if delays arise.

Publisher’s Responsibilities

  • Maintain the integrity of the academic record and provide reliable editorial infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with editors to prevent and address misconduct, including issuing corrections or retractions when necessary.
  • Ensure long-term digital preservation of published content.

Research Misconduct & Retraction Policy

Cases of plagiarism, data fabrication/falsification, image manipulation, copyright infringement, or other ethical violations will be addressed through clarification requests, investigation, and coordination with authors’ institutions. Possible editorial actions include:

  • Correction (Erratum): For errors not affecting main conclusions.
  • Expression of Concern: When issues may undermine reader confidence while investigation is ongoing.
  • Retraction: For proven serious misconduct or unreliable findings.

Appeals & Complaints

Authors may appeal editorial decisions or raise concerns regarding the review process by contacting the editorial office. Appeals will be reviewed by senior editors or editorial board members not involved in the original decision, ensuring fairness and transparency.

Post-Publication & Attribution

  • Published manuscripts follow the journal’s licensing policy; authors retain rights in line with selected licenses.
  • Post-publication corrections are time-stamped and linked to the original article to maintain academic integrity.

By submitting a manuscript to JEVE, authors acknowledge that they have read, understood, and agreed to this Publication Ethics Statement, and that they comply with COPE guidelines and JEVE’s ethical policies.
